The Hon. Spencer Abraham to Speak on Energy Crisis

Washington, DC, May 21, 2001— The Competitive Enterprise Institute will feature the Honorable Spencer Abraham as keynote speaker at the 2001 Warren T. Brookes Memorial Dinner on May 24.  Mr. Abraham will speak on the recently released National Energy Policy. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = “urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office” />


“We are very happy that Spencer Abraham has agreed to deliver the keynote address at this year’s dinner,” said CEI president Fred L. Smith, Jr.  “Finding supply-side solutions to America’s energy crisis is key to the nation’s future prosperity and standard of living, and few people are working harder to assure an affordable energy future than Abraham.”


The annual Warren T. Brookes Memorial Dinner also serves as a forum for remembering the life and work of the late journalist Warren Brookes, former columnist for the Boston Herald and Detroit News.  Brookes used his nationally syndicated column to challenge conventional wisdom and popular myth on a broad range of economic and environmental issues.  In his honor, CEI sponsors both the Memorial Dinner and the Warren T. Brookes Fellowship in Environmental Journalism.


In addition to Abraham, the evening will feature remarks by CEI president Fred L. Smith, CEI distinguished fellow Jack Kemp, and Club for Growth president Stephen Moore.  Mr. Moore will be receiving the Julian Simon Memorial Award, in honor of the late free-market economist.
