Twenty EU member and accession states labour under a cadre of panels collectively known as the European Environmental Advisory Council (EEAC). Styling itself as a body “to provide independent, scientifically based advice on the environment and sustainable development,” this so-called “network” is actually a series of org-anisations funded by the European Commission to lobby for their interests locally. As MEPs have just discovered, however, the EEAC “also aims, where appropriate, to exert an influence on policy at EU level.”
