1. HEALTH

Emergency officials in Kentucky put out the call for volunteers and donations of bottled water.

CEI Expert Available to Comment: Director of Risk and Environmental Policy Angela Logomasini on the importance of having bottled water during natural disasters (as highlighted in our new video):

“Some government officials say that consumers who chose bottled water are stupid and reckless. But our video shows that their condemnation of this business is what’s truly stupid. After all, whom do officials call on when a natural disaster hits? They call on bottled water companies whose donations make a life-saving difference.”

2. ECONOMY

Republicans leaders doubt that the federal stimulus spending bill will pass the Senate.

CEI Expert Available to Comment: Vice President for Policy Wayne Crews on what a real economic stimulus would look like:

“A truly effective economic stimulus program would reduce the ‘tariffs’ on wealth creation. It would free the world’s largest economy from excessive regulation and spending—by freezing both, for starters—and from the undisciplined political money and credit creation at the core of the financial crisis.”

3. ENVIRONMENT

Former Vice President Al Gore testifies before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on the effects of global warming.

CEI Expert Available to Comment: Adjunct Analyst Steven Milloy on Gore’s Venus envy

“Testifying before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Wednesday with yet another one of his infamous slide shows, Gore observed that the carbon dioxide (CO2) in Venus’ atmosphere supercharges the second-planet-from-the-sun’s greenhouse effect, resulting in surface temperatures of about 870 degrees Fahrenheit. Gore added that it’s not Venus’ proximity to the Sun that makes the planet much warmer than the Earth, because Mercury, which is even closer to the Sun, is cooler than Venus. Based on this rationale, then, Gore warned that we need to stop emitting CO2 into our own atmosphere. Incredibly, not a Senator on the Committee questioned – much less burst into outright laughter at – Gore’s absurd point.”
