Welcome to the CEI Annual Dinner

We’ve come to one of the most exciting times of the year—the week of the Competitive Enterprise Institute Annual Dinner and Reception. This year’s event, “Freedom: The Greatest Show on Earth,” features a circus theme with décor and entertainment from underneath the Big Top. Featured speakers include White House Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney and National Review’s Jonah Goldberg. Special guest Hernando de Soto of the Institute for Liberty and Democracy will be accepting CEI’s Julian Simon Memorial Award.

This is also an opportunity to look back at some of CEI’s prior annual dinners, and their creative themes. Last year my former colleague Mollie Dreisbach did a great job enticing attendees with “Five Things You’ll Encounter at the CEI Dinner,” but she didn’t mention one of the biggest highlights, CEI’s annual short film. Each year the “dinner movie” features CEI staff in a light-hearted tribute to the often perplexing and absurd (but always fascinating) world of public policy. Treat yourself to a short festival of the last few dinner movies below.
