Dorgan’s lobbying checks align with newfound ATC stance

Politico details Marc Scribner's paper on drones as part of the daily transportation and infrastructure update.

As lawmakers mull drone policy ahead of the FAA reauthorization, scholar Marc Scribner is out with a new paper arguing that less is more when it comes to policing unmanned systems. Heather reports that Scribner, a fellow at the libertarian Competitive Enterprise Institute, argues that many of the current privacy and safety problems related to drones can be properly policed by current law and the private sector. He argues against enacting geofencing regulations — as called for by Sen. Chuck Schumer — that would essentially establish “no drone zones” and strict privacy laws that could hamper drone development while the industry is still in its early stages.
