Obituary: Dr. Christopher Lee Culp

It is with great sadness that the family of Dr. Christopher Culp shares he passed peacefully July 1, 2020.
Dr. Culp was born on April 7, 1969 and raised in Nashville and Brentwood.
He was an honors graduate from Franklin Road Academy in 1987, graduated Phi Beta Kappa from The Johns Hopkins University in 1990, then received a Ph.D. in 1997 from The University of Chicago Graduate School of Business.
Chris was a highly respected financial economist, academic and expert witness, always making time to share his breadth of knowledge and experience in his unique, charismatic way.
More importantly, Chris was an extraordinarily warm and generous person that leaves behind countless friends and colleagues around the world.
He was a senior advisor with Compass Lexecon, an adjunct professor of finance at the Chicago Booth School of Business and an adjunct fellow with the Competitive Enterprise Institute.
He specialized in structured finance, insurance, credit markets, derivatives and risk management in his teaching, research, consulting and expert witnessing in legal trial testimonial activities.
He was a much sought after guess speaker for many business conferences and meetings and taught graduate courses on the campuses of Chicago, Barcelona, Singapore and Bern University in Switzerland.
Chris was a world-renowned author and expert in financial economics and consulted clients around the globe.
He was a devoted Christian who supported The Moody Church and Moody Bible Institute, both in Chicago.
Chris had an eclectic set of hobbies from skiing the Swiss Alps to voracious reading to a decades-long relationship with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. He was truly a Renaissance man.
He is survived by his parents Johnny and Lindalu Lovier; his sister, Dorothy Grace Lovier; and special friends J.B. Heaton, Andie Kramer and Al Harris of Chicago; as well as a host of relatives, friends and loved ones around the world.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 14. Visitation will be at 1 p.m. and the service will be at 2 p.m. at New Hope Community Church, located at 605 Wilson Pike in Brentwood. Masks are required.
