Wednesday, December 2 – Union “release time” robs school coffers

A report from the Competitive Enterprise Institute claims that financially-depressed Fairfax County (Va.) Public Schools pays over $2 million per year to teachers for time they spend working on labor union business. The school system in suburban Washington, D.C., which is facing a $72 million budget shortfall, recently assigned a budget task force to recommend cost-saving measures but its report didn’t mention “release time” paid to teachers for union work, CEI said.
