UN Climate Conference Set to Make More Empty Promises

Washington D.C., November 29, 2011- The seventeenth Conference of the Parties (COP-17) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is being held this week and next week in Durban, South Africa. COP-17 will try to paper over the failure to agree to extend the 1997 Kyoto Protocol, which is set to expire at the end of 2012.

“The wheels have come off the Kyoto Bandwagon, and it’s up to COP-17 in Durban to pretend that the collapse of the Kyoto Protocol and the failure to sign a new global warming treaty will be reversed in the negotiations leading up to COP-18 next year,” said Myron Ebell, Director of CEI’s Center for Energy and Environment.

CEI’s Global Warming Experts have been following and attending the UN climate meetings since the Framework Convention on Climate Change was signed at the Rio Earth Summit in 1992 and are  available for comment.
