Friendlier Skies? (Letter to the Editor)

A Feb. 3 front-page article announced the welcome news that more airline competition is coming to Eastern markets, spurred by the entry of Southwest Airlines into the East Coast market.

The members of Congress sponsoring a so-called bill of rights to regulate certain airline practices like ticketing (news article, Feb. 3) should have taken heed of developments like Southwest's expansion before jumping on the reregulation bandwagon.

Competition in the airline business will give consumers more rights than any law. Instead of looking to impose new rules, Congress should be looking to remove existing Federal barriers to even more competition.
