Ms. Warren Should Take Aim at Confusing Federal Laws (Letters to the Editor)

Todd Zywicki is right to criticize President Obama for appointing a consumer-lending czar without submitting the appointment to the Senate for an up-or-down vote (“In Elizabeth Warren We Trust?,” op-ed, Sept. 30).

Mr. Zywicki was right to criticize Ms. Warren for peddling the myth that medical costs cause most bankruptcies, long after it had been debunked, and for ignoring the role of “spiraling taxes.” State and local taxes have risen, as public-employees have profited at taxpayer expense. Ms. Warren is wrong to treat bankruptcies as “medical” just because a small fraction of a bankrupt’s debts were medical or caused by drug addiction or “uncontrolled gambling.”
