Obama Should Stop Meddling in Honduran Affairs

The Examiner was right to oppose President Barack Obama’s demand
that Honduras reinstate its ex-president and would-be dictator, who is
an ally of the Marxist Castro and Chavez regimes. Obama’s demand is an
egregious form of imperialism.

Ex-President Manuel Zelaya
was removed from office on orders of that country’s Supreme Court. In
demanding his reinstatement, Obama is seeking to overrule the Honduran
courts on a matter of Honduran law. Americans would never tolerate
foreigners overruling our Supreme Court. Nor should that be forced on
Honduras.

The ex-president forfeited his right to rule under
Article 239 of the Honduran Constitution by trying to circumvent
constitutional term limits. Soldiers properly carried out court orders
in removing him under the power vested in them by Article 272.
