Trump Marijuana Policy Undermines Citizens’ Rights

On news today that United States Attorney General Jeff Sessions rescinded an Obama-era policy curtailing federal enforcement of federal marijuana laws in states that have already legalized it, Competitive Enterprise Institute consumer policy expert Michelle Minton criticized the change in policy:

This move by Attorney General Jeff Sessions is out-of-step with public opinion and negates the choice made by voters in 29 states on marijuana regulation. States and their citizens have the constitutional right to decide these matters for themselves without undue federal interference. It’s time for Congress to intervene, change our outdated federal drug laws, and restore choice to the American people.

CEI last year led a coalition letter to Congress urging continuance of a policy of non-interference. See: CEI Leads Coalition Letter Supporting Rohrabacher-Farr Medical Marijuana Amendment and CEI Leads Coalition Urging Feds to Stand Down on States’ Medical Marijuana Decisions
