Energy Department seeks to stop bad appliance regulations

The Energy Department today proposed a rule that sets limits on any future appliance regulations. CEI Senior Fellow Ben Lieberman praised this reform:
“The proposed rule puts consumers first by preventing future home appliance efficiency regulations that do more harm than good.
“Several past appliance regulations substantially raised purchase and installation costs, while others delivered only negligible energy savings – and some did both. Under the proposed rule, the Department of Energy can finalize rules only if its analysis clearly shows net benefits for the majority of consumers. The only remaining controversy is why these and other commonsense steps in the proposed rule haven’t been standard practice all along.”
