Just think how wonderful it would be if government guaranteed everyone health care. Just like in Great Britain!
Just ask Lynne Neilson what she thinks of the National Health Service. Reports the Daily Mail:
An expectant mother gave birth on a hospital assessment room floor because busy staff failed to put her in a maternity unit bed.
Lynne Neilson had been waiting for two-and-a-half hours when she went into labour standing up, clutching the side of a trolley.
A midwife who arrived just as her daughter Orla’s head appeared put down a disposable mat, caught the baby and unwound the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck.
Even then, Mrs Neilson had to wait a further hour before being transferred to the labour ward.
Lynne Neilson pleaded with staff to take her to the labour ward at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, but she ended up delivering daughter Orla on a disposable tissue paper mat on the floor of the assessment room.
She and her husband Gavin, both 36, have now made an official complaint about their treatment.
Describing how a midwife only moved her from a public waiting room when she was close to vomiting from the pain, Mrs Neilson said: ‘She said she’d come back in 20 minutes. That’s when it all really went wrong because she didn’t come back. She was caught up seeing other patients.
‘Every time Gavin was going out to say we needed assistance there was no one coming in.
‘The room we were in was cold, there was a narrow trolley – not a bed – which I couldn’t get up on to, so I was holding on to the side of that.’
She added: ‘I felt a huge pressure and at that point I knew that we’d left it too late and that the baby was going to be born.’
Mrs Neilson spoke of her relief as another midwife arrived just in time to find Orla’s head emerging: ‘We were panicking and she untangled the umbilical cord.’
On second thought, maybe socialized medicine isn’t the best way to go.
